In the mid-1800s, several buildings were destroyed in Marienplatz, and construction began on the enormous New Town Hall.

Looks like structures that Gaudi built in Barcelona.There is an elevator to the top of the tower which offers a great view of Munich. There is courtyard area that serves as a self service cafeteria and restaurant with waiters. Went to the cafeteria twice. Sausages, beer and wine were good and inexpensive. Nice place to relax in Marienplatz.

Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) Between 1867 and 1908 the New Town Hall was built by Georg Hauberrisser. In the tower (85 meters high) of the Neue Rathaus is the famous Glockenspiel. Every day it chimes at 11 a.m. as well as at 12 p.m. and in the summer at 5 p.m., too. The Glockenspiel shows two stories from the 16th century.
